The New Yorker Open!
Seven-Round, Swiss-System Chess Tournament (7 games, no elimination), 40 moves in 2/hours, then Sudden Death/1 hour (3-day option, Rounds 1-2 Game/75; 2-Day Option, Rounds 1-4 Game/50) , in the beautifully remodeled and well-lighted 3rd Floor Conference Center and Grand Ballroom of the The New Yorker Hotel, 481 Eighth Avenue at 34th Street, across the street from Penn Station (near 33rd Street PATH trains), New York City!
$10,000 Prize Fund, proportioned on 250 paid entries
(Under 1200 Section entries, Unrateds in Under 1600 Section and re-entries all count half)--
minimum $5,000 (half of each prize) Guaranteed !
In 5 separate sections
1. Open Section FIDE-Rated. 30 Grand Prix Points!
1st - $1,200 2nd - $600 3rd - $300 4th - $200
2. Under 2400 Section FIDE-Rated.
1st - $1,000 2nd - $500 3rd - $250 4th - $150
Top-Scoring Player rated Under 2200: $400,
2nd Place, rated Under 2200: $200
3. Under 2000 Section
1st - $1,000 2nd - $500 3rd - $250 4th - $150
($300 prize limit to Unrated players)
Top-Scoring Player rated Under 1800: $400,
2nd Place, rated Under 1800: $200
4. Under 1600 Section
1st - $850 2nd - $400 3rd - $200 4th - $100
($200 prize limit to Unrated players)
Top-Scoring Player rated Under 1400: $300,

Three separate playing options!
Four-Day Schedule (all 7 games are 40/2, then Sudden Death/1), on-site registration ends Friday 6:00 pm.
Round times: Friday 7:00 pm; Saturday 11 am, 6 pm; Sunday 11 am, 6 pm; Monday 10 am, 4:30 pm.
Three-Day Schedule (Rounds 1-2 are Game/75), on-site registration ends Saturday 10:00 am.
Round times: Saturday 11 am, 2:30 pm, 6 pm; Sunday 11 am, 6 pm; Monday 10 am, 4:30 pm.
Two-Day Schedule (Rounds 1-4 are Game/50), on-site registration ends Sunday 9:30 am.
Round times: Sunday 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm; Monday 10 am, 4:30 pm.
All schedules merge and compete for the same prizes within each section.
On-site registration is only for players who have not registered in advance! Players who have already registered in advance DO NOT also need to register on site-- just be at the tournament in time for your first game!
ENTER ON-LINE HERE UNTIL MAY 24th: $100 per player.
After May 24th, enter on-site at the New Yorker Hotel only. THE ON-SITE ENTRY FEE IS $120 PER PLAYER (no checks at site, credit cards OK).
Entry fee discounts: $60 less to all players in the Under 1200 Section or Unrated players in the Under 1600 Section (only players with 3 games or less are unrated), $20 less to players rated Under 1400 in the Under 1600 Section, GMs free ($80 from prize), free to specified Greater New York Scholastic Prizewinners!
$10 Rebate to all current members of the World-Famous Marshall Chess Club (must show valid Marshall Club Membership card to TD to receive $10 rebate)! Note: this tournament is not affiliated with the Marshall Chess Club; the $10 discount is a remembrance of happy times with our friends at the Club!
Hotel rates: $229 for room with Queen bed, subject to availability thru May 13th: call 212-971-0101, ask for chess rates.
Half-point byes: limit of 3; Open Section must commit before Round 2, other sections commit before Round 4. Re-entry: $70.
Official May USCF ratings (and CCA minimum ratings, if any) used. Current U.S. Chess Federation membership is required to participate (in any USCF-rated tournament), and membership dues may be paid when registering for tournament.
There is a $15 service charge for each player entry fee refund until at least one hour before game time. USCF Membership dues are forwarded to the USCF-- membership dues are not refundable.

After May 26, call 845-569-9969, or 212-971-0101 and speak to the Tournament Director-- DO NOT LEAVE ANY MESSAGES WITH THE HOTEL SWITCHBOARD, as these are unlikely to be received in time to prevent you from losing on forfeit!). No refunds for players who do not show up for their tournament game and do not provide the Tournament Director with at least one hour notice that they will not be coming (resulting in a "no show" forfeit loss).
